Wtorek. Mamy spore zaleglosci. Od poczatku, byle krotko. Dzis na lotnie wybralem sie ja i bylo bardzo fajnie, chociaz troche mnie mimo kasku przewialo :) Filmiki beda udostepnione, na razie foty. Potem troche spacerow w centrum i nadszedl czas rozstania z przyjaciolmi z Medellín. Obysmy wszedzie spotykali takich ludzi! Piekny park, stary nastrojowy dom i pelno odtworzonych utensyliow do produkcji cukru (prawdziwa linia produkcyjna). No i sporo czytania w gablotach, haha! Po powrocie do miasta nadszedl czas szukania noclegu. Mamy takie opoznienie (dziwne, prawda? Super! Autobusem dojezdzamy tam w jedyne 1h20m (cale miasto rozkopane, szykuja bezkolizyjne autobusy, cos jak Transmilenio w Bogocie). Ja musze jeszcze odebrac paczke, ktora przyszla do nas z Bogoty a Asia idzie do Ricarda. Wracam juz autobusem. Witam sie z chlopakami. Mieszkaja tam Gustavo (nieobecny), Ricardo i ich kumpel Carlos a cale dnie spedza tam takze drugi kolega, Andrey. Zaparzaja nam swietna mate i czestuja winem. Wkrotce poznajemy tez dziewczyne Ricarda, Caroline i jej przyjaciolke, Ane-Maríe (dobrze napisalem? :)
Przemyslowa to delikatne slowo. Dzien pelen wrazen :)
Czwartek. Idziemy nad rzeke. Korzystam z niezlej formy i jedziemy w koncu zwiedzac samo Cali (3 dzien pobytu!).
I caly czas 26-28C. Pozdrawiam polskie sniegi i zycze szybkich roztopow!! :)
Sobota, znow czas rozstania.Jedziemy do Popayán a stamtad zaraz do San Augustín, do parku archeologicznego.
A zatem jutro dalsza czesc parkow archeologicznych, a potem juz tylko powrot do Popayán, potem Pasto i Ipiales i... zegnaj Kolumbio (wiza do 25go!), witaj Ekwadorze... Quito, nadciagamy!

Tuesday. We´re lagging so behind! Today I went paragliding. It was cool although I was half frozen when we landed, what with all that wind. We will provide videos and photos, rest assured! Then some walking in downtown Medellín and suddenly came the time to say goodbye to our friends in Medellín. Hope we can meet good people like them in all parts of this great continent! 8h night bus ride and we´re in Asia´s dream hacienda just out of Cali (a sugarcane plantation). The cabbie ripped us off real good but it was worth it. A bueatiful park, an atmospheric old house and a lot of reconstructed sugar cane processing tools (a whole processing line). And a lot of reading! Back to town, looking for somewhere to crash. We´re so late that all our HC and CS.com friends had already left for holiday (it´s their holiday season now). But still, we try to give Gustavo, a HC guy, a call, maybe he´s still in town. Nope, but there´s his little bro, Ricardo. Never heard of any Polish guests but will be happy to accommodate us! Wicked! We catch a bus and after a mere 80 minutes from the bus station we´re at his place (a big dig all over town, a new city transit system is in the works but it´s still not ready so…). It still have to claim the package with my camera charger and battery from Poland forwarded by Luis´s parents from Bogotá while Aska goes to see Ricardo. I catch a cab and after a few misunderstandings it turns out that the “central” office of the carrier company where packages can be claimed is a long way out of town. How stupid is that? The meter reading was painfuuul… : ) Ouch.. we barely made it before they closed down, and today I´m happy these people drive like madmen. I catch a bus back home, I say hi to the boys. The apartment is occupied by Gustavo (the absent landlord : ), Ricardo, their buddy Carlos and Andrey, their friend, spends a lot of time there as well. They prepare excellent mate for us and give us wine. Soon we also meet Ricardo´s significant other, Carolina and
her friend, Ana-María (hope the spelling´s right?)
We´re on our last legs today. Tomorrow, more tourism!

Wednesday, a visit to San Cipriano, a village 2h bus ride from Cali, recommended by Lonely Planet as unique. From the village where we get off to San Cipriano there are no roads, only decrepit rails, and it´s a long time since the last train visited this place. So for the 6km to the village through the jungle you can catch a…hand-operated trolley. Since 2004 (the year our guidebook was published) they modernized the thing a bit and now they´re using motorized trolleys (see photos) but it´s still a lot of fun. After quick and brusque negotiations, we get on and minutes later we´re in the steamy, jungle village. Not much to do here so we dip ourselves for a minute in a crystal-clear river (strong currents!) and we go back. We´re still going to the Pacific coast, our first trip to the Pacific ocean. We go to a port called Buenaventura, a few miles west. The city looks depressing. The sea.. well just look at the photos.
No tourists, nothing but expensive travel agencies (cruises to actual BEACHES : ) We hope in Peru the Pacific will be more kind to us. After meeting a couple of Canadian missionaries, who enthusiastically praise Buenaventura´s charms and then say in the same sentence that one of their countrymen was killed here today and that it´s not safe we feel it´s a good time to head back to Cali. Sure a steamy day!
Thursday. We´re planning to see the zoo but first the boys want to take us to a small pueblo outside of town. We catch a bus then we change buses on a bumpy country road and after crossing a small stream (still on the bus!!!) we reach a small village, which the Cali people visit on weekends. It has beautiful mountain sights and nature but not much to offer in the way of other attractions. It´s higher than Cali so the temperature is a lot cooler which is mostly why the city people come here to rest. Now, on a weekday, there´s nobody here. We go to see the river. Boys want to swim. I don´t. I set up my new trip on a rock a take a shot of all of us. I want to do a retake, so I set the camera on self-timer and quickly jump from the rock to another to join the rest. Too quickly. Rapidly, my body turns horizontal and after a big thump on another rock 5 feet below lands in the river for a quick swim, although that was never my intention. Everybody looks terrified. They tell me move my limbs so they know nothing´s fractured and to stay in the ice cold water to cool down my bruises. I´m kinda dizzy but it´s not from a blow on the head, which fortunately didn´t happen. The photos from my pathetic fall are also included. The one where everybody´s looking down into the water is the one the camera took seconds after the wall. Boy, was I lucky. With a little help of my friends : ) I make my way upwards and trudge to the bus stop. Due to endorfines and a painkiller my butt doesn´t hurt that much yet but I shudder at the thought of tomorrow´s morning : ) Since I´m still feeling ok, we catch a bus to visit downtown Cali (on our 3rd day there!!). A lot of nice churches and old buildings, although it is not spectacular. Still, leaves a nice impression. The guidebook says the most beautiful women in Colombia live here. In my opinion, they´re nice but not much above the average (which in itself is pretty high, mind you!!!). The night falls, we go back home.
Friday, the pain´s not as bad as I thought, so we´re heading out to see the local zoo, supposedly Columbia´s best. It really is impressive, from the multimedia presentation about ants in a small theatre at the entrance until the last flamingo at the exit. And 90% of all specimens are local!!! (Colombia has the largest biodiversity in the world). Monkeys jump around, lion´s showing off his muscles, tiger roars in a friendly manner and only the anteater doesn´t give an ant and is sleeping. Even the cayman seems to be grinning at me. Or maybe I´m still delusional after the fall : )
We head back home exhausted and deafened by our own shutter clicks but happy. At night, Ricardo and Caro take us to world-famous salsa club, Tin Tin Deo. This place is steaming but not with cigarette smoke but with dancing couple. Some of the men dance really good, hard not to be impressed, without mentioning the girls of course, although obviously there are better and worse dancers too. My aching behind and my Eastern-European stiffness prevent me from dancing but Asia, Ric and Caro are doing a great threesome on the dancefloor. We catch a cab back home and for the first time in Colombia since maybe December it is raining. But still it´s 26-28C so hard to imagine what snowy and frozen Europe must be like now. Many warm days to you, guys!
Saturday, again time to say goodbye. We go to Popayán and from there to San Augustín to an archaeological park. Our bus seems like it was built under Nixon and legspace here is good for toddlers but certainly not for me. 6h on a bumpy country road through the mountains (it´s a little outback village) and my aching butt is begging for mercy. We reach the town at night and right after getting off the bus we´re accosted by two ladies from competing tourist agencies offering hotels and trips. Later on it turns out they represent the same tour operator so I don´t what the big deal is about. We find a cheap and lovely family hotel and we schedule a jeep trip for tomorrow to visit the nearby attractions. So sleepy now……
Sunday. Our jeep was cancelled. Not enough people. Rescheduled for Monday. We visit the one park that is near enough so you can reach by bus. Bug pre-Columbian sculptures are really impressive. They´re one of the greatest discoveries on the continent. And walking distances are say… reasonable, 1 mile not more. Weather is bad for shooting cause it´s cloudy but it´s great for walking. 25C, no more, normally it would be 10C more : ) And we meet a elderly local guide who supposedly speaks 7 languages (Japanese included) and learns 2-3 more every year. Polish and Russian are scheduled for 2007 so I can´t wait to have a chat with him next year  We get back in the afternoon, have a juice and go to the internet place to write our story. Ooops… this is the end. So tomorrow the next part of our discoveries. From here it´s only Ipiales and the Ecuadorian border. Our visa is expiring on 25th so we need to get out badly. Quito… here we come!!!
Monday. Our jeep trip was okay, but it was nothing spectacular. We met a very nice family from Bogotá – the lady was an anthropologist so we had free guided tour from here – and a not so nice self-conceited German guy. FYI, Sven, Lucas is not a traditional, vodka-infested-Polish-catholic-duh! name. Screw you anyway.
Unfortunately, rain caught us on our way back so we missed on some of the most important attractions, some of the newly excavated sculptures which still haven´t eroded and kept their original layer of paint. Oh well, we still have a postcard. Tomorrow, it´s Ipiales and then Pasto on Wednesday.
